Peter Babb was a keen amateur artist and member of The Tuesday Painters.
He had a scientific background and had previously worked as an architect which influenced his approach to painting, as evidenced by the geometric themes, clean lines and subtle gradations of tone of his earlier works. He was fascinated by how the accretions of time create a richness of colour and texture on buildings. His work explored and celebrated the consequences of weathering. His landscape and marine paintings were inspired by the effects of atmosphere and sometimes took on an abstract quality. His exquisitely observed portraits and still-lifes reflect his playfulness and curiosity.
An open exhibition of Peter's work will be held at 11am-4pm on Sunday 18th October at the ETNA Centre, 13 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham, TW1 2AR

Take a painting, make a donation
My father, Peter Babb, recently died from complications of prostate cancer. He loved the Maggie’s centre at Charing Cross and was a regular at the art therapy sessions for many years, which gave him much support and solace. He was a retired architect, so greatly appreciated the therapeutic effect of beautifully designed buildings on people’s lives. He made several “field-trips” to other Maggie’s centres to enjoy the architecture.
During the later decades of his life, he was an enthusiastic amateur artist and created a large body of work. He was always delighted when people enjoyed his paintings. In honour of his memory we are holding a small exhibition to celebrate and share his work. I am hoping that people with come and take a picture and make a donation to the Maggie’s centre charity. I very much hope that this will also raise funds for the charity so that others can benefit from their centres as much as my father did.
